I think these temporary lower prices are just a ploy by the oil monopolies to keep their republican Friends in control of the government

According to data, the refining portion of the petroleum industry is currently most profitable. Buy stock in Valero?

The most money is made in crude oil production. They have had record profits every quarter for every year, the last 3 years.

If the question refers to percentage profit, of courst it's the government. They get a lot with no cost to them. If it's the profit in dollars, it's got to be crude oil production, which accounts for $2 of the cost of every gallon of gasoline.

Crude oil production makes a lot. But don't forget that government taxes are pure profit.

Crude oil production - For older fields (drilling costs already recovered)own by governments (Middle East) that have not started to decline, the crude is generating almost 100% profit.

It's got to be crude oil production. $75 a barrel oil contributes almost $2 to the price of gasoline.

Government taxes. However a lot of that is used for roads; and buying/selling on the commodities exchange. Here the broker assumes all the risk of upward or downward prices which benefits oil production and refining. If the price goes up, he can make bunches of money. However, when it goes down, and the media seems completely oblivious of this, the broker can lose his shirt.
Overall though, I'd say the (type A) broker earns more. I would expect that death rates are higher in this area too, because it definitely is a pressure-packed job!
In today's world, any work in the gasoline supply chain; could not be traded to me - at any price. I really admire those who can handle it.
